Looking for a career in the Oil & Gas industry? Well look no further, we have the resources to get you started.  Imagine working on an oilrig , making well above average wages, at times only working six months a year and the opportunity to travel the world at the expense of the employer. It is all possible when you contact MDS to help you get started at your career.

Shell Hires Stena Drilling State Of The Art Drill Ship (IceMax) for it's 2015 Exploration off Nova Scotia

Shell , Conaco Phillips and Suncor join forces to explore Canada's East Coast which is part of billions of exploration dollars slated for Eastern Canada.  Along with this project (BP) British petroleum is seriously looking at their options in the area as well.  Statoil has an interest off Newfoundland with a marginal stake with a great outlook for future exploration along with the Hebron project under way off NFLD.  Looks like the cards are turning for opportunities in Eastern Canada for those working out West looking for opportunities back home.  These announcements should get people excited for the future as the Oil & Gas industry will change the economy for the better.  The task for these companies in the future is finding the talent to support future operations as its going to be competitive against other projects around the world.  East Coast Canadians should be looking at getting trained for the drilling industry so they are ready and prepared to take on the challenges going to be offered by these major operators.
Maritime Drilling Schools Limited is already offering its 20 Pre Employment Floorman (Roughneck) Training Program for Land and Offshre Drilling Rigs.  Being prepared prior to the arrival of these drilling contractors will help you to become more attractive as new hires with all the industry Safety Certifications and Industry Accreditations under your belt.

Statoil Contracts Seadrill West Hercules to Drill Flemish Pass Basin off Newfoundland

The work will be focused in the Flemish Pass Basin, about 500 kilometres northeast of St. John’s. Statoil has three oil finds in the basin — at the Bay du Nord, Harpoon and Mizzen sites.
In 2013, Bay du Nord was revealed as the company’s biggest oil discovery outside Norway and the world’s largest conventional oil discovery of the year by volume, with an initial estimate of 300 million to 600 million barrels recoverable.
The West Hercules is owned by Seadrill, a sister rig to the West Aquarius, and has accommodations for 180 people. It has most recently been used for well work in Norway.

Our students are working with more than 100 drilling contractors around the world and creating a worldwide web of resources.
We provide the only industry accreditations east of Alberta and recognized world wide.  Students are registered in a data base in Houston, Texas for validation to employers.  Employers in the industry will be reassured our students have been trained through a accreditation process reviewed by a board of industry directors.

We are now experiencing an Oil Boom around the World.  Canada is busy in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Some Activity in Eastern Canada both land and offshore. The United States are experiencing booms in North Dakota Bakken Oil Deposit, Montana, Ohio Utica Source Rock and the Marcellus which runs from Ontario to Tennessee, Colorado, Wyoming and new technology drilling in East Texas Permian Basin and the Eagle Ford Shale of South Texas.  Offshore Drilling in the US has increased as well and expect the deep water drilling to increase as new  regulations and equipment restore confidence. Opportunities around the globe are available to those wanting to experience the international activity.

With the rebound of higher  prices of oil & gas and minerals as well as the present and future demands of these resources, should have you looking to further your career in these industries.  Another issue is the baby boomers, which the oil & gas and mining industry is already experiencing as their key employees are ready for retirement and no personnel to replace them with.  In short, now is the time for training with greater opportunities for those seeking a rewarding career and looking to advance forward.

Human Resources and Skills Development Canada and the Oil and Gas Industry supports Pre Employment Training programs through their sector council.  The sector council (PHRCC) Petroleum Human Resource Council of Canada was established to deal with a labour shortage with in the industry through training and retention strategies.

Financial Assistance E.I. Employment Insurance:
Some of our  Students choose a Line of Credit from their local bank to fund the program or utilize their visa for training funds.
Read on and come grow with us as we help train the general public, trades persons, university students, general labourers, military and men & women of all cultures for present and future oilfield jobs.  As this industry is becoming more automated and less labour intensive e.g. computer automated robotics.  Future generation rigs provide equal opportunities for men and women.

Looking at the past and future of this industry, this is the best time ever to train for this industry as the opportunities for employment and promotions are at its highest!!!
Once students complete our program we provide a world wide list of drilling contractors along with contact information.  In addition, Maritime Drilling Schools Limited is contacted regularly from employers for access to our students.  Students should not pay recruiting agencies for employment or wage reduction for services. In Canada most drilling contractors in Alberta run orientations twice a week. Employers normally provide  medicals to potential employee's prior to employment.  The majority of land drilling contractors are located in Nisku, Alberta and located 10 minutes from the Edmonton airport.

Program Outline: Established to train individuals who are looking to work in the drilling industry in whole i.e. oil & gas, mining, service and supply. This program will provide an individual with an in-depth knowledge of drilling operations and safety applications tailored specific to working on a drilling rig or work providing a service or supply to the drilling industry. This training is career based and is recommended to those individuals who intend to stay and work in this field as an occupation. Please read the below program contents and follow up by reviewing the start dates and registering on the tab at the bottom of the page.
A Primer of Oilwell Drilling:
Clearly explains drilling to non-technical persons. Drilling rigs have many, many parts and rig personnel do many, many things; as a result, it is hard to make the drilling process understandable. To help students understand, however, this course not only describes parts and techniques in simple terms, it also tells why a part or a technique is necessary. What is more, photos and drawings show the equipment, the personnel, and many of the operations described in text.
Roughneck Training Series Video Programs:
Students will also experience making a connection, making a trip in and out of the hole, caring and use of tongs, what are slips and laying down pipe. Students will complete an exercise following each video program.

General Safety, Safety Programming and safe operation in handling of equipment will also be discussed throughout the program. Training will consist of 6 days 9:00am-4:30pm (45hrs). Upon completion of study, students are required to complete a 1 hour closed book final exam with a minimum pass mark of 70 percent. In addition the following programs are to be completed.

(IADC) International Association of Drilling Contractors WellCAP® Well Control accreditation for Introductory Level Drilling, Workover and Completions
WellCAP
IADC Established Principles:
The WellCAP program is based on the principle that proper training, emphasizing the knowledge and practical skills critical to successful well control, produces competent rig crews. Using quality benchmarks developed together with operators, drilling contractors, professional trainers and well control specialists, WellCAP ensures that well control training schools adhere to a core curriculum developed by industry. Accreditation is achieved only after an extensive review of a provider's curriculum, testing practices, faculty, facilities, and administrative procedures.
WellCAP offers benefits to all involved:
Operators and drilling contractors can be confident that their rig crews have undergone suitable instruction, resulting in an internationally recognized training certificate. They are also able to reduce costs previously caused by duplicate training and have access to training documentation and records.
Governments and regulatory bodies benefit from measurable standards, the establishment of core curriculum and job skill guidelines and an industry-administered program of self regulation.
The training school itself gains the recognition of industry by meeting benchmark standards for quality and training.
The industry overall has access to continuously-updated curriculum guidelines for a variety of rig operations.
Maritime Drilling Schools has adhered to IADC principles and achieved a core curriculum that meets the IADC WellCAP® Well Control accreditation for Introductory Level Drilling, Workover and Completions. This program will be offered in conjunction with the Pre Employment Floorman (Roughneck) Program. Course duration 1 day 9:00am-4:30pm (7.5hr)
